Fargo: Silicon Valley of the Midwest

There’s a significant presence of tech startups in Fargo that has been growing steadily over the last decade. Beyond the new tech boom from Microsoft and other businesses, the Fargo/Moorhead area has been a college town for decades, and home to over 30,000 college students.

Fargo also boosts the nation’s second-lowest unemployment rate, 4.1% percent. With Emerging Prairie, a startup news and event organization, which co-organizes 1 Million Cups, TEDxFargo, and a monthly gathering called Startup Drinks, as well as Myriad Mobile, there’s a lot going on for you and family to do in town. Known as an excellent community for families, Fargo has begun hosting the annual Midwest Mobile Summit. There are nonprofit coding classes for women, as well as meetups for hackers, gamers, developers, and even bitcoin enthusiasts.

So, despite the stereotype, as someone working for Microsoft, you’ll feel right at home in this booming city. Due to the colleges and technology growth, there is a wide variety of networking available.

Living Near Microsoft Campus in Fargo

The Fargo metropolitan area is a lot bigger than you may think it is. It can take a while to drive from its northern to southern tips, especially if you must cross the railroad lines. Very active railways bisect the city of Fargo and several places, causing significant delays on even the most traveled throughways. As such, you certainly wouldn’t want to live out of the way making the commute to work very unknown.

We highly recommend living in a neighborhood near the Microsoft campus to reduce your commute time. Fortunately, the campus is located in South Fargo and has majority of new development areas with brand new homes, a wide variety of lots to build your new home on, plenty of shopping and other conveniences.

Two of the beautiful neighborhoods near the Microsoft Campus are Prairie Farms and Crofton Coves. The Prairie Farms neighborhood is located in South Fargo and includes a growing park area, path connectivity to South Fargo’s trail network, and incorporated a pre-existing shelterbelt in its unique design.

Crofton Coves is another amazing neighborhood just minutes away from the Microsoft Campus. This growing community features a beautiful pond, walkways/trails and is centrally located by a number of schools. It also features large lots with grass meadows.
